Thailand is a Source, Transit & Destination country for Human Trafficking. It is known all over the world for it's Sex Industry and has an estimated 2 MILLION prostitutes. Pattaya alone has a multi-billion dollar sex industry, with street after street lined with bars and massage parlors. Everywhere you look there are older American and European men walking hand in hand with young, beautiful Thai girls.

A majority of the girls are from villages in Northern Thailand. They come from rural areas, where there is much poverty, little education, and very few opportunities for young women. 

In Thailand, a daughter is expected to provide for her parents, and it is often the family who sends their daughter to the city, to Bangkok or Phuket or Pattaya, to sell themselves in the flesh trade. The girls work in the bars so they can send money back home to their families.

YWAM's Tamar Center is making a difference in Pattaya, by offering employment in their card making program.
The women are able to leave the bars and to support themselves and their families with dignity. They also offer training in their hair salon, bakery, coffee shop, and other income producing activities. Tamar Center is a center for help, healing and HOPE.

Suayngaam Jewelry~Numerous slum communities exist throughout Pattaya, and those who live in them have little education and little hope for the future. YWAM's Slum Ministry is reaching out to the women (and men) inviting them to come to work in their jewelry-making project. Suayngaam is a Thai word that means beauty, and it is the perfect word to describe the lovely jewelry the artisans are creating, as well as the changes it is bringing about in their lives.

Originally a small fishing village of only a hundred families, the Vietnam War brought discovery by the western world and Pattaya soon became the official "R & R" center for American Armed Forces. Shops, services, bars and hotels soon grew to meet the demand. The tourism boom followed, and nowadays Pattaya is a thriving resort destination.
